Injuries to U.K. visitors in the United States

Leighton Law has a long history of representing British visitors to Florida and the United States who have been injured while on holiday. Orlando and Miami are the primary travel destinations for British citizens visiting the States.  Unfortunately the attractions in these cities can also provide a host of risks, and between road accidents and fall perils, many visitors from the U.K. return home injured. Worse, some lose family members while on holiday.

John Elliott Leighton recently obtained a $1,000,000 (USD) recovery on behalf of a British family whose son suffered injuries during their transport in Orlando.  In other cases, Leighton Law lawyers have obtained substantial recoveries for U.K. travelers injured at theme parks, resorts, hotels, cruise ships and by taxicabs.

In another case, Mr. Leighton obtained a multi million dollar recovery for the families of a European couple on their honeymoon who were burned when a gas leak at the resort in which they were staying ignited, ultimately costing one of them their life. Leighton has also represented many Europeans from outside of Britain as well, as Florida is a favored destination.

Our attorneys and staff  have worked with many U.K. clients, as well as co-counsel (barristers and solicitors) throughout the United Kingdom, in order to bring substantial recoveries to British nationals injured while vacationing in the States. When considering which lawyer to represent you in Florida, there are a number of things to consider before you make your decision:

    • Is the lawyer board certified in civil trial law (the highest level of professional achievement available)?  Most lawyers who claim to be personal injury attorneys are not board certified, so it is important to determine that.
    • Is the lawyer you are considering preeminent in his or her field — has he or she written extensively, lectured, taught or been recognized as being at the top of the field in trial law?
    • Does the lawyer regularly litigate and try cases of the type you have? If so, find out what kind of results that lawyer has had in court.
    • Is the potential attorney selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America (attorneys cannot apply or pay for inclusion)
    • Has he or she been selected for inclusion in Florida SuperLawyers, Florida Legal Elite and “Top Lawyers” in the South Florida Legal Guide? (Again, these are peer-selected and not chosen based upon application or payment)
    • Does the lawyer hold an “A-V” preeminent rating (highest possible rating for ability and ethics) by Martindale-Hubbell?
    • Does the lawyer have a 10.0 rating by AVVO.com?
    • Has the lawyer represented foreign nations in cases in the United States and Florida?

These are a few things that you want to consider when selecting a personal injury lawyer in Florida.

Leighton Law’s John Elliott Leighton has all of these qualifications and routinely litigates and tries major personal injury cases throughout Florida, having obtained some of the state’s highest and most significant verdicts.

Please see our representative cases under Resort Torts for examples of cases we have handled on behalf of U.K. citizens and other foreign nationals who have been injured through negligence in the United States.

We maintain close relationships with U.K. barristers and solicitors in representing our British clients. If you are from the U.K. and have sustained an injury in Florida whilst on holiday, please visit our U.K. web site at http://www.leightonlaw.co.uk/ or call our free U.K. telephone number: 0-808-120-1994.
