$375,000 settlement – Tourist mugged at airport hotel (Miami)

Tourists are at greatest risk when traveling because they are unaware of their surroundings, do not know which areas are dangerous, are in places frequented by visitors (criminals know this) and are much less likely to return to the area for trial if there is an arrest.  Florida is known for having a tourist-based economy.  Why should you care about that? Because as a visitor to Florida, whether for vacation or business, you are at greater risk of being a victim of crime.

W.P. was vacationing in Florida. He drove his rental car to the hotel near the airport to check in.  He was struck in the head and mugged while leaning over the trunk of his rental car unloading his suitcase at the hotel. All of his possessions and luggage was taken and he suffered a head trauma.  The hotel was near the Miami International Airport and had been the site of several other similar muggings. The area is full of transients and visitors.  There was a complete lack of security and limited ingress and egress.  John Elliott Leighton represented the foreign tourist and obtained a confidential $375,000 settlement.  The hotel was improperly managed and failed many of the basic standards for hotel security.

Leighton Law represents visitors who have been mugged, robbed and sexually assaulted when visiting Florida.
