    10.0John Elliott Leighton

Leighton Law is a personal injury law firm that aggressively represents people who have been injured and helps families of those killed through the fault of others. The firm has built a national reputation by obtaining some of the most substantial recoveries in personal injury and wrongful death cases.

Founding partner John Elliott Leighton has litigated and tried complex and catastrophic injury and death cases throughout Florida and across the United States, as well as teaching other lawyers trial skills and substantive areas in personal injury law. He is an accomplished author in the field of personal injury litigation, having written leading books and articles. Mr. Leighton specializes in serious personal injury cases and obtaining the very highest recoveries for our clients.  Joined by his partner Max Panoff, both have been honored by inclusion in Florida SuperLawyers and actively instruct trial lawyers in deposition and trial techniques.  Mr. Leighton has been selected for The Best Lawyers in America for more than a decade along with inclusion in Florida Trend magazine’s “Florida Legal Elite”.

Leighton Law has obtained some of the highest verdicts and settlements in Florida

Some of Florida’s Largest Verdicts and Settlements

Mr. Leighton has obtained some of the highest verdicts and settlements in Florida, including the largest verdict in Seminole County history, $24.1 million (Orlando Business Journal, 6/20/05), and a $24.3 million wrongful death verdict in Orange County in 2011. His trial in Jeffery v. Publix Super Markets, a landmark inadequate security case, was the subject of an entire chapter in the book, Persuasive Jury Communication: Case Studies from Successful Trials, Chapter 10 (Shepard’s/McGraw-Hill 1995). Mr. Leighton recently obtained a $7.4 million verdict on behalf of the victim of a trucking crash in Osceola County. (Erb v. Peninsula Logistics).

Leighton and Max Panoff recently won a $49.3 million verdict on behalf of a young girl who was sexually abused and raped by her teacher inside the school. This high profile verdict came at the time America was recognizing the #MeToo movement, which has empowered a huge number of survivors of sexual abuse and assault to come forward, tell their stories, and receive rightful compensation. For our client, actions were brought against both the school and the criminal/teacher.

His recent recoveries of $11.25 million, $9 million, $8 million, $7.4 million, $6 million, $5.5 million, $5 million, $4.75 million, $4.3 million, $3.75 million and $3.65 million have brought fair compensation and financial security to our clients.

    National Practice…Local Service

Through his 38 years of aggressive trial practice as a personal injury lawyer, the results obtained by Mr. Leighton have become recognized as among the most significant in Florida and throughout the United States. He is often hired by attorneys in other states to litigate and try complex civil cases.

His recoveries of $4.3 million in Illinois, $1 million in Texas, $3 million in Indiana, $1.1 million in Wisconsin and $250,000 in North Carolina are examples of the geographic reach and trial success Mr. Leighton and the lawyers at Leighton Law have achieved.
