$1,510,000 Settlement – Mother’s Death Following Childbirth (Miami)

The birth of a child is supposed to be the most joyous event in someone’s life.  For women, it is often the happiest time of her life.  In our client’s case, it was the last moments of her life.

Our client gave birth to a healthy baby, but developed serious infections postpartum  (after delivery) that resulted in her premature death.  She was never able to see or know her baby.

Her death was a  caused by infection after child birth, because portions of the placenta were not removed at the time of delivery. The placenta is supposed to be removed in full when a woman delivery a baby.  Because portions remained, they became infected and caused a massive infection and sepsis in this young otherwise healthy woman. The health care providers failed to remove all placenta and failed to recognize her developing infection before beginning treatment.  John Elliott Leighton was hired to represent the surviving husband and child, and resolved the matter short of trial. He was able to obtain a confidential settlement of $1,510,000.
