$210,000 Settlement – Slip and fall at shopping center walkway

Businesses have a responsibility to maintain their property in a reasonably safe condition. That includes conditions it knows will occur, like rain and water that people will be walking on.

A $210,000 settlement was obtained for a truck driver who slipped and fell on the walkway in front of an anchor store at a strip shopping center.  It had been raining and the walkway was very slippery, causing the man’s legs to go out under him. The walkway contained yellow paint markings which became very slippery when wet, and there were no non-skid substances placed in the paint.  The paint actually caused the walkway to become ultra slippery as it was a high gloss paint that only became more slick with water.
