$1,000,000 Settlement – Nursing Home Abuse Resulting in Subdural Hematoma (Key West)

Why is the choice of nursing homes so important?

Because these are the people who are charged with the care of the most vulnerable people in our society.  We put our elderly and infirm in the hands of those we believe are skilled and compassionate.  We expect them to receive the best care. That sometimes fails to happen, and nursing home neglect or nursing home abuse is the result.

An elderly woman was neglected in a Key West nursing home.  The neglect became so severe that the woman fell and struck her head numerous times, finally causing a subdural hematoma. John Elliott Leighton brought suit against the nursing home and proved through deposition testimony and documents that the staffing was inadequate and treatment was negligent.  A settlement for the institution’s policy limits of $1,000,000 was obtained.
