Confidential Settlement – Shooting of innocent bystander by security guard

Most people think of banks as safe places.  Most have security guards, video cameras and other security. But when the people who have been hired to keep a bank safe actually cause harm, tragedy occurs. That’s why security providers need to properly hire, train and supervise their security guards.  This is particularly true of armed security guards, who hold the power to kill and maim.

A man entered a bank and attempted to commit a robbery.  Although he did not attempt to use violence, the security guard in the bank drew his weapon and fired at the would-be robber. Instead of striking the criminal, the guard hit an innocent bank employee. The man survived without substantial permanent injuries.  John Leighton represented this man and brought suit against the security company.  A confidential six figure settlement was obtained to compensate this man, who did not return to banking.
