$2,575,000 Settlement – Improper Medication – Wrongful Death (Broward County)

The statistics regarding medical errors while hospitalized are startling.  It is estimated that 50% of all hospital admissions result in some form of medication error.  Many are minor mistakes, in timing or dosage.  Some are major, causing serious injury and death.

In one such case, John Leighton obtained a $2,575,000 recovery for the death of woman given inappropriate medications in a hospital, causing a massive cardiac arrest and brain death. The woman did not have any legal survivors.

She was given two medications that should never be given together.  This is an example of the worst kind of hospital medication error.  When medications that are contraindicated for use are administered, the body can have extreme reactions.  In this case two narcotics interacted in a way that left her brain dead.

A confidential settlement was reached on behalf of our client’s family. E.G. v. Major Hospital
