$1,300,000 Settlement – Premises Liability Resulting in Back Injury (Orlando)

There is a reason why there are building and life safety codes that businesses are required to meet.  They are developed to make the premises safer and anticipate the possibility of falls and other common injuries.  Because businesses profit from having people enter their property, they are charged with the responsibility of maintaining a reasonably safe premises.  Building codes are just the care minimum that must be met.  But when even that is not met, it’s understandable that people will be hurt.

A confidential settlement of $1,300,000 was obtained by John Elliott Leighton for a middle aged woman who slipped and fell on stairs at a country club during a private event.  The stairs were defective in their design.  She underwent back surgery due to her injuries. It was proven that the steps did not meet the code requirements and presented a hazard to the guest.
