In recent cases settled confidentially, Mr. Leighton was retained by a major developer whose joint venture partner had acted improperly by taking advantage of their business relationship. While the two businesses had entered into an agreement to purchase prime shopping center acreage, the partner went to another party to cut a better deal and bought the property out from under our client. Mr. Leighton represented the developer and obtained a very substantial settlement as a result of the tortuous conduct by the joint venturer, which was a breach of fiduciary duty.
