    $1,160,000 verdict – premises liability – child electrocuted at home

    $1,160,000 verdict on behalf of parents of teenager electrocuted by defectively wired boat lift on the west coast of Florida.  The boy had been swimming in a canal with friends when he climbed the boat lift and turned it on.  Because it was miswired, it electrocuted him. John Elliott Leighton represented the father of the boy, who died instantly. Estate of S v. multiple parties.  This tragedy highlights the importance of proper electrical wiring, inspections, and skilled craftsmen.  In this case the installer was improperly trained, careless, and had a history of miswiring electrical equipment.  The lack of inspection contributed to this senseless death.
