$1,045,000 Settlement – Inadequate Security Case: Sexual Assault (Key West)

Hotels are often seen by criminals as an easy mark.  There is a lot of transiency, people coming and going.  There are many places to hide.  For the hotels that do not meet accepted security standards, there are many weak links in the security chain. Key West is no exception.  As a resort destination, it is chock full of hotels and visitors who are busy trying to drink, relax and have fun. Even those working at resorts are not immune from sexual violence.

John Elliott Leighton recovered a $1,045,000 settlement for a woman sexually assaulted at a hotel due to inadequate security in Key West. The woman was working at the hotel when she was assaulted and tied up in a hotel room. A confidential settlement was negotiated with the hotel chain based upon negligent security following Leighton’s win in court on a critical legal issue.

Because there are people always coming and going in hotels, they are often targets for crime.  Leighton Law has special expertise in representing survivors of sexual assault and violent crime at hotels and motels, as well as cruise ships, amusement parks and resort settings.
